Orchids, in the Old Oak Tree.

I’ve had 9 or 10 very large Orchids growing on the large branch of an old Oak Tree, in my front yard, but Hurricane Irma came through our County, about two years ago, so, to save all the Orchids I took them off the tree. I did my best to not damage them but they were all so large and I had to cut them from the branch, because their roots grew into the bark.

Once the Hurricane came through, I put them all back on the tree.. took a bit of work, anchoring them once again, but I did it. I was heartbroken because they were all so small compared to the size they grew from years of being on the tree.

The Purple Orchid above is the new growth this year.

The two photos below, are before “Hurricane Irma”, two years ago. How it hurt me to have to cut them down.

I’ll tell you, I’ve been pampering all my orchids with tender loving care and I’m so happy to see them come back to life. The best part of growing Orchids outside, in a tree, there is no work involved.. I do spray with Orchid food every two months, or so. Also, it’s fun for me to have a total stranger, drive by and pull up in front of my house and want to talk about my Orchids.

One by one, their starting to bloom again. It only took a year or so! Once they are all blooming I’ll post more photos.

The potted Orchid above, is next, to be put in the tree. But I’ll not bother it, until the blooms fade, then secure with twine, to the tree. This little guy has been in the pot about 9 months.

As all of you, can see, “I love Orchids” and, have had no luck trying to grow them in the house.. they just don’t get enough sun or humidity. Here in West Central Florida they can get both, in abundance, in a tree. If you are lucky enough to have a large tree, with low branches, secure a few Orchid plants to it, and watch them grow!

Once you have your Orchids in your tree, send me a photo and let me know how well it’s working for you… Good Luck!

Charity

Have you found that once you’ve brought Charity into your life, somehow your life got better?

“I have, and it makes me feel so good inside”

I’m not talking about the kind of Charity that you give money, but when you just do something, for the good of others, your family, friends, an older person or offering something to someone less fortunate.

I’ve found during my life, I am known for giving my time mostly, and also something of value to others. It brings joy to my heart to give, and, I don’t need to ask or speak of it, I just find myself doing it.

The only problem I have had is one or two people who did not want me to do this or that and I’m sorry to say, I have one family member who took my generosity in the wrong way, and nothing I could say would change their mind. (that is another story, for another time)

Now that my children have all moved away from me, I’ve fallen in love with “Knitting and Crochet”. I’ve knit so many sweaters, hats, and scarves for my 4 grandsons and children, not to mention the afghans for their beds or sofas.

This past few years I’ve put my love for Crochet and Knitting into baby blankets.

I make tiny baby blankets for newborns, who would otherwise not have a soft, fluffy blanket, to go on its first trip home from the hospital.

I chose a Charity here in my area, and have been sending  8 to 10, blue, yellow, pink and green, Infant soft color blankets, in a box, every two months or so, and I know from the lovely notes and letters I get in return, really makes the “New Moms” so happy; in fact, the letter I received from this one particular Charity,  right after this past Christmas said, “The moms were given a new blanket at our annual Christmas party, and, the moms, had tears in their eyes”.

Once I have a good number of blankets made, usually 8 or 9 per box, then it’s time to weave in all the yarn endings. Takes a while, but it’s so worth it.

Leave a comment, let me know how you give to others, and how good it makes you feel inside?

Grandsons are the best…..

Today our family is celebrating the baby’s birthday, although he is not a baby anymore, today “Henry”, turns 6 years old.

My 4 grandboys are such a joy to me, but since their births, 15 years ago to date, they have lived all over the world with their Mom, my daughter, and their Military Father.

Eric, Joell, Alexander, and Henry, now 6 years old.

Although I have traveled to visit and they have come to me for visits, they have always lived thousands of miles away, so once a year is about all we can manage. I’ve stayed on it, being sure the boys know me, as I send boxes full of goodies, food, and a few toys, about 5 or 6 times a year. They know me as the “Box Grandma” and we all have a great relationship. Now that the two older ones have iPhones, we can text and facetime

Today I’d like to send out a BIG “Happy Birthday” to my sweet “Henry”
