I’ve had 9 or 10 very large Orchids growing on the large branch of an old Oak Tree, in my front yard, but Hurricane Irma came through our County, about two years ago, so, to save all the Orchids I took them off the tree. I did my best to not damage them but they were all so large and I had to cut them from the branch, because their roots grew into the bark.
Once the Hurricane came through, I put them all back on the tree.. took a bit of work, anchoring them once again, but I did it. I was heartbroken because they were all so small compared to the size they grew from years of being on the tree.

The Purple Orchid above is the new growth this year.
The two photos below, are before “Hurricane Irma”, two years ago. How it hurt me to have to cut them down.

I’ll tell you, I’ve been pampering all my orchids with tender loving care and I’m so happy to see them come back to life. The best part of growing Orchids outside, in a tree, there is no work involved.. I do spray with Orchid food every two months, or so. Also, it’s fun for me to have a total stranger, drive by and pull up in front of my house and want to talk about my Orchids.

One by one, their starting to bloom again. It only took a year or so! Once they are all blooming I’ll post more photos.

The potted Orchid above, is next, to be put in the tree. But I’ll not bother it, until the blooms fade, then secure with twine, to the tree. This little guy has been in the pot about 9 months.
As all of you, can see, “I love Orchids” and, have had no luck trying to grow them in the house.. they just don’t get enough sun or humidity. Here in West Central Florida they can get both, in abundance, in a tree. If you are lucky enough to have a large tree, with low branches, secure a few Orchid plants to it, and watch them grow!
Once you have your Orchids in your tree, send me a photo and let me know how well it’s working for you… Good Luck!
